Meeting Siobhan Vivian + New Book

Hey guys!

Last night I met one of my favorite authors, Siobhan Vivian! I have been a fan since I read The List a couple of years ago (that ending had me tearing up) and I LOVE the Burn for Burn series that she wrote with Jenny Han. She came to my local bookstore as a part of the The Last Boy and Girl in the World book tour!

I have been anticipating this book for months (it was a part of my  Most Anticpated 2016 Reads list) so I’m so happy to finally have it in my hands! I’m a fourth of the way in, and I’m loving it.

The first part of the event was a Q&A. I arrived a little late because I was out to dinner with my dad, but I still got to ask a question. I asked her what advice she has for aspiring writers, because I’ve loved writing ever since 4th grade and I’ve attempted to write books before, but I always get bored about halfway through writing it. Her advice was to write a full draft, because from there you can go back and edit, change things around, etc. Now I just need some story inspo so I can start frequently writing again!

After the Q&A she signed my books and she told me she would send me a signed bookplate from Jenny Han, so my Ashes to Ashes book would have both signatures. She is so sweet!! Someone actually took a snapchat of us with the Ashes to Ashes book to send to Jenny Han, which was awesome!

She also told us a little bit about her next book, but I not going to reveal anything. All I’m saying is that it has to do with deserts, and that I’m very, very excited to read it.

Here is a picture of my signed book and the pin that she gave everyone who came. I actually saw a picture from @owlcrate on instagram of a pin the publisher sent them that morning, and I was wondering if we were going to get them at the signing. It’s so cute!!

Here’s the synopsis of The Last Boy and Girl in the World from Goodreads:

What if your town was sliding underwater and everyone was ordered to pack up and leave? How would you and your friends spend your last days together?

While the adults plan for the future, box up their possessions, and find new places to live, Keeley Hewitt and her friends decide to go out with a bang. There are parties in abandoned houses. Canoe races down Main Street. The goal is to make the most of every minute they still have together.

And for Keeley, that means taking one last shot at the boy she’s loved forever.

There’s a weird sort of bravery that comes from knowing there’s nothing left to lose. You might do things you normally wouldn’t. Or say things you shouldn’t. The reward almost always outweighs the risk.

Almost.

It’s the end of Aberdeen, but the beginning of Keeley’s first love story. It just might not turn out the way she thought. Because it’s not always clear what’s worth fighting for and what you should let become a memory.

So, to finish off this post my question to you is this: What would you do if your town was sinking? What would you bring with you, what would you leave behind, how would you spend the last days with your friends?

For me, I would obviously take my favorite books (no surprise there) and I would definitley do something like Keeley and her friends did. Canoe races down Main Street, parties in abandonned houses? Sign me up!

xx,

Sophie
