- Divergent by Veronica Roth
Usually, when I say this I piss off a bunch of people. “How can you not like Divergent?” Well, I don’t. I read up until page 200 then decided not to finish it because I was bored out of my mind.
- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Another book I got halfway through, bored, and decided it wasn’t going to be worth it to finish. And now it has a tv show? Maybe I’ll give it another chance. Maybe.
- Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
To me, this was wayyy over-hyped. For months up to its release all I heard about was how amazing this was going to be. Then I read it and almost fell asleep because I was so bored. The so-called “crazy plot twist” I was expecting through half the book. Am I being too harsh?
That’s all on the list for now. What popular books did you guys not like? Should I give any of these a second try?
xx, Sophie

I’ve seen soooo many lukewarm reviews about The Red Queen. You’re right, it was so, so hyped. Why, I wonder.

City of Bones isn’t the best of the series, but I really liked the next two a lot more. Definitely give it another go, because once you push through that one they do get better, I promise.
A popular book that I didn’t like was The Winner’s Curse. I just… it was okay, but I just thought that characters were flat and distant and the story kind of dragged a lot.

Thanks, I’ll think I will give it another try. I read the Winner’s Curse too and I totally agree that the characters were flat.

I agree about Divergent – I read it but couldn’t be bothered to read any of the sequels. I quite liked the movies though, at least you only have to commit a couple of hours.
